  Twinkling Stars
  By: Blondie (Stina)
Watching, gazing, wishing on the stars.
I sit here and stare,
at the dark night sky.
My eyes playing tricks,
as the stars start to wink,
greeting me.

They twinkle and shine,
the spotlight on them.
As they dance to an unknown melody.

They take leaps!
Crossing the sky,
streaking it with dreams,
that it leaves behind.
Quick!
Make a wish!
And send it off.
It’ll top the list!

The starlight intrigues me,
pulling me in.
I want to be part
of this wonderful thing!
I get to show off,
everybody watching me,
as I twirl, and spin.

I jump, mesmerizing thousands of eyes.
Leaving them in awe,
as they dream of a bright life too.
In between the heavens and ground,

I drift around.
Being swept in a gust
taken down from the angles,
up above.

The light of an orange sunrise
brings me back to life.
I find myself wondering where the pretty sights have gone.
I know they’re still there,
keeping eye on me.
Watching me closely.
Hoping one night,
I’ll come back again,
and twinkle in the moonlight.

Sweet Evil Book Trailer:

                                             My Thoughts

Sweet Evil is about the lives of the children of fallen angels or “dukes” in the book, each one of the twelve “dukes” or fallen angel was in charge of one of the twelve deadly sins (wrath, adultery, substance abuse, lies, gluttony, greed, envy, lust, pride, theft, hatred and murder). The children of the dukes have… special abilities; they could see and feel others emotions and for the females they usually had another special ability, like persuasion. The sons and daughters of the “dukes” are supposed to help their fathers by influencing the people around them to do the sin that their father is in charge of.

Anna Whitt (main character) is a sweet, innocent girl, who has always been different from her peers around her. She doesn’t exactly fit in with everybody and she doesn’t know who her mother or her father are. Patti is Anna’s adopted mother who tries to protect her from the harsh world as much as she can. Then there is Jay Anna’s best friend who introduces her to his favorite band. In walks Kaiden a bad boy drummer, he oozes lust and is the boy every girl dreams of. At the beginning, what Anna doesn’t know is that Kaiden is more similar to her then she knows.
Anna is soon revealed her true heritage, which explains her weird powers, and discovers that the mysterious Kaiden is a son of a duke. Surprisingly Anna isn’t the one out there like her, but yet again she is different; her father is a duke and her mother is an angel.  An anonymous message sends these two out on a sudden road trip to L.A. Along the journey Anna peels back the tough layers of Kaiden one day at a time. As they travel together Kaiden’s instinct to do more then play friends rubs onto pure hearted Anna.

When I first bought this book I was intrigued by its synopsis but I was also reluctant to read it. The synopsis interested me because it had something that are in most books these days but completely different at the same time. The whole teens fighting for their lives thing is quite common these days, but I have never heard of a book where the teens had to be bad influences to survive! What made me reluctant was that, I was very deathly afraid of it being boring and totally cliché. What motivated me to read the book is when my family and I decided to take a road trip ourselves to Seattle and Vancouver, I had brought Sweet Evil and Twilight, and I had finished Twilight on the way there, so I had no other choice then to read Sweet Evil on the way back.  Surprisingly I loved it! I literally couldn’t put it down.  The internal fight Anna had to stay true to herself actually felt realistic. What I thought made Anna’s good girl persona real is that, Higgins didn’t make her a prude. What I loved most about the book though is the tension between Kaiden and Anna; a bad boy and a good girl not exactly original but it is a classic.
Sweet Evil had an interesting mythological blend but wasn't cliche at all! The book was fantastic, I loved that Wendy Higgins didn't shield away from the darker and heavier side of things, it made things a little more interesting. This book had an angel/devil romantic chemistry, that I particularly enjoyed but there were parts of the book that were mysterious or suspenseful. This book was automatically a favorite when I finished it and I couldn't wait to read the sequel Sweet Peril.  I give this 5 out of 5 nail polish bottles.

Synopsis

Isabella Swan's move to Forks, a small, perpetually rainy town in Washington, could have been the most boring move she ever made. But once she meets the mysterious and alluring Edward Cullen, Isabella's life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn. Up until now, Edward has managed to keep his vampire identity a secret in the small community he lives in, but now nobody is safe, especially Isabella, the person Edward holds most dear. The lovers find themselves balanced precariously on the point of a knife-between desire and danger.Deeply romantic and extraordinarily suspenseful, Twilight captures the struggle between defying our instincts and satisfying our desires. This is a love story with bite.

                                                                      My Thoughts

I am ashamed to admit that I had first judged this book by the movie, I know, I know horrible way to judge a book. My first reaction to the movie though was; sparkly vampires, what the heck! And why does Bella always bite her lip and stutter? After much, much time I finally decided that, maybe, just maybe I should read the book. So I stupidly went on the Indigo website (we don’t have any Barnes & Nobles in Canada) and just ordered the whole book set, only because it was the white collector’s edition! I really should have borrowed a friend’s book or a library book for Twilight but, nope I just assumed that I would like it.
When I first started the book I almost put it down and said “I give up!” the prologue was okay not too bad but, what bore me to tears was the first few chapters of the book, in my opinion it was quite slow, but most books are. What annoyed though was the beginning of Bella and Edward’s relationship/ friendship, while I was reading the book I was so so so tempted to just flip to the chapter where Edward and Bella were a happy couple! Don’t worry though I was able to resist that strong powerful force. Now that I'm typing this though, I realized how fast the relationship had escalated, they had only been on, what one date and all of a sudden he is watching her sleep in HER BED! Surprisingly in Twilight, vampires sparkled in the sun, which had me puzzled at how Stephenie even thought of that, and I had to take away manliness points for that, I mean come on sparkly vamps! Despite the sparkly vampires and snoopy people in Forks, which is the small town Bella moved too, the book had many funny and fluffy adorable moments, but don’t worry there was also suspense, and exciting, near death moments. Overall I would give this book a 4 out of 5 the plot was pretty good, I liked how it was written, it had me laughing at some parts and awwing at others. It also successfully got me head over heels for, the Edward and Bella pairing (I wouldn't mind having somebody as protective and romantic as Edward) I loved the romance, suspense, humor and the super naturals in Twilight and I would recommend this to a friend!

Publisher: Atheneum Books For Young Readers
Release Date: June 5 2012 (hardcover)

Synopsis:

Two hundred years from now, blood has become the most valuable commodity on the planet- especially the blood of aboriginal peoples, for it contains antibiotics that protect them from the Plague that is ravaging the world.
Sixteen-year-old Cassandra Mercredi might be immune to the Plague, but that doesn’t mean she’s safe. Government forces are searching for those of aboriginal heritage to harvest their blood. When a search threatens Cass and her family, they flee to the Island, a mysterious and idyllic territory protected by the Band, a group of guerilla warriors, and by an enigmatic energy barrier that keeps outsiders out and the spirit world in. And though the village healer has taken Cass under her wing, and the tribal leader’s son into his heart, the spirit world is angry, and it has chosen Cass to be its voice and instrument....

                                          My Thoughts

Usually I don’t read novels with much romance, but this book has taken me by surprise. Shadows had the perfect blend of fact and fantasy. The book takes place in present day Vancouver Island, where Catherine (the author) lives. It shows old ways, with new horrors and what might become life in a couple hundred years.

Shadows kept me hooked, it was my drug... I stayed up all night reading it. Every little detail was perfect. I mean there were a few strands that had a minimum amount of flaws.
Cassandra and her brother, Paul, seemed like real people the more you learnt about them. And the way Cass describes the Spirit World makes it feel like you’re with her, and creates the wonder if its actually out there. Bran, the lost tribal leader’s son, was a bit iffy at first, but he really grows on you, to me, I felt like I was putting him up for a test, which he certainly passed.
With all the pressures put on Cass, becoming the new village healer, still trying to get her bearings on the Island, and seeing if she’s good enough for the other women of the Island, she still comes out strong. I definitely recommend this book, its a great read! I would totally give this book a 5/5.
